Bible Reading Marathon in Marietta Square

The Piedmont Road church of Christ is pleased to sponsor a Bible reading marathon in Marietta Square (aka Glover Park) from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, rain or shine, on April 20, 2024. During this event, portions of God’s word will be read aloud to provide an overview of the entire Bible, beginning with Genesis, and ending with Revelation. We know that reading God’s word in public honors Him and benefits those who hear His words, so we are excited to take advantage of this unusual opportunity.
The event will in some ways commemorate and replicate the ancient practice of reading scripture in the public square, which dates back thousands of years. An example of these events is contained in the Old Testament book of Nehemiah, chapter 8: "And all the people gathered as one man into the square before the Water Gate. And they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses that the LORD had commanded…And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people, and as he opened it all the people stood…They read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading." Readings will be done by numerous individuals from our congregation and sister congregations in the local area in roughly 15-minute blocks of time for nine straight hours. No commentary on the passages will be given, so as to let God’s word literally take center stage in Marietta Square.
Chairs will be provided in front of the stage and greeters will be in the park to answer any questions, take prayer requests, and so forth. No donations will be solicited at this free event. Please make plans to join on April 20th for some or all the Bible readings that day! Questions?Send a message to us at https://lifeinchrist.com/pr-contact.
